Everton fans had high hopes at the beginning of the 20/21 campaign, with the introduction of World Cup Golden Boot winner James Rodriguez, the standards of the season for many Everton fans were raised substantially. The biggest focus of the 2020 summer transfer window was the midfield, after unwatchable performances during the 19/20 season, and horrific midfield displays, it was clear that we needed an upgrade.

On Everton’s radar was, former Watford player Abdoulaye Doucoure, who’d impressed whilst playing against Everton across multiple games, his attacking drive & defensive attributes were perfect for the Toffees. Allan Marques was another on the radar, the Brazilian international had experience under Carlo Ancelotti and also Champions League experience, after Carlo’s sacking at Napoli, Allan was a player Ancelotti made sure he brought to Everton.

The season began and in an instant it was clear the season was everything but ordinary, results you’d never expect, underdogs taking down the self proclaimed ‘big 6’, and this was also in Everton’s favour, their first win came at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where Dominic Calvert Lewin’s bullet header had proved to be the winner in the end, giving Everton their first away win to a big 6 club for the first time in 7 years.

After weeks went by, Everton were knocking down records one by one, an incredible starts had increased the Toffees fan’s expectations even more, after on of their best starts to a season in Premier League history, it was beginning to look like this season could be the season Everton challenged for a European spot.

The fifth game approached, and it wasn’t just an average game, the Merseyside Derby, despite not having fans, this game was more important than any other game so far in the season, the pride of the city was at stake, a very entertaining 90 minutes, with goals coming from Salah, Calvert-Lewin, Keane and Mane resulted in a 2-2 draw meaning the points were shared, despite a disallowed Liverpool goal in the dying seconds of the match.
